Operation Turkey Dinner

Sunday, December 17th: Over 60 Turkey Dinners were provided to families across the city of Orange.  The dinners included a turkey, and scrumptious sides for their holiday meal.  Thank you to all the volunteers and donations that made this possible.

Canned Food Drive

During this season of giving, the students from our After School Education & Safety (ASES) Programs at the YMCA of Orange did their part by contributing to the Hope for the Holidays Canned Food Drive led by the Community Action Partnership of Orange County and OC Food Bank.  It was great to see our students happy to participate in a selfless act of kindness and collect cans from December 1st through 15th to help make sure that children, families, seniors, and Veterans impacted by poverty are not left behind.

Questions? Jane Avila, Senior Program Director,

On Monday, July 17th the Y welcomed volunteers from Best Buy.  Our volunteer day consisted of members from the Best Buy team coming out to our Orange Day Camp in collaboration with Y staff to facilitate an activity to get our kids up and moving, raise awareness of the importance of being physically active, in addition to a brief presentation of the technology available to track and monitor physical activity.  The activity was wonderfully paired with a "Build your own Trail-mix" station for our campers to create their own healthy snack to enjoy during our movie presentation tied into our "Around the World" theme this week.

This was a great experience that both our campers and volunteers truly enjoyed.

2017 Healthy Kids Day

On Saturday, April 29th, the YMCA of Orange held a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active.  Thank you parents, kids, volunteers, and community partners for joining us this year.  A special THANK YOU to Grocery Outlet for donating healthy snacks.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families, features activities to motivate and teach families how to develop a healthy routine at home.

YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, celebrated at nearly 1,300 Ys across the country, aims to get more kids moving and learning, so they can keep up the habit all summer long – a critical out-of-school time for kids’ health.  When kids are out of school, they can face hurdles – or gaps – that prevent them from reaching their full potential, related to hunger, water safety, learning, safe spaces to play, and health.  As part of our commitment to addressing critical gaps in health and education, at Healthy Kids Day, the Y is kicking off efforts to encourage kids to stay physically and intellectually active over the summer.
