Every year in the fall the YMCA honors an executive that has been recognized for his outstanding philanthropic and volunteer efforts in Orange County. This fun-filled event features a golf tournament during the day at the beautiful Oak Creek Golf Club, and a dinner awards ceremony with a live and silent auction in the evening.
Proceeds from the tournament, awards ceremony and auction will help support the YMCA youth programs. Sponsorship opportunities are available starting at $300 for adults only. Golf entries and dinner are included in many of the sponsorship options.
On June 12, 2003 the YMCA honored Tim Mead and Kevin Uhlich of the 2002 World Champion Anaheim Angels. Tim Mead, Vice President of Communication and Kevin Uhlich, Senior, Vice President of Business Operations, were recognized for their efforts in bringing the first World Championship to Orange County. They go to great efforts to support the youth in the community which is why we were thrilled to honor them as the 2003 Executives of the Year.
On October 21st, 2004 the YMCA honored Bruce Merino, the Western Division President of The Home Depot. He is a huge supporter of the YMCA. In August 2004, The Home Depot constructed a new playground for the children of the YMCA of Orange. This dedication to the YMCA and community is why we were delighted to honor him as the 2004 Executive of the Year.
On October 13th 2005 the YMCA honored Dave Wilson, President of the Wilson Automotive Group. He is a tremendous supporter of the YMCA and has made a huge positive impact on the community of Orange. He and Toyota of Orange were the originator/sponsors of the ‘Round Orange Race’ that raised over $250,000 for Orangewood Children’s Foundation. He has given so much back to the community which is why we were pleased to honor him as the 2005 Executive of the Year.
In October 2006, the YMCA honored Dave Hirz, President of Ralphs Grocery Company. Dave was selected as our honoree as a result of his contributions to his community and his heavy involvement with the YMCA of Orange Indian Guides and Princesses Program.
In 2007, the YMCA was proud to honor Parker S. Kennedy, CEO of the First American Corporation. In May 2003, Kennedy was recognized as one of America's top chief executives on Forbes Magazine's prestigious list of "Best-Performing Bosses." Ranked at number 5, Kennedy was one of only 10 executives from the nation's 500 largest companies to receive an A+ efficiency grade for pay versus performance.
Kennedy serves on the boards of several First American subsidiaries and affiliates. He also serves on the boards of directors of various charitable organizations, including the Fletcher Jones Foundation. He is a current board member of the Orange County Council of the Boy Scouts of America and is a past chairman of the board of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce and of Bowers Museum. Kennedy is also a past president of the American Land Title Association.
On October 9th, 2008, the YMCA of Orange recognized Assemblyman Todd Spitzer for his outstanding service in public office and his work on behalf of children and families in our community.
Due to our current economic climate, our Board of Directors has postponed our Golf Tournament to 2010. We look forward to hosting our 7th Annual Executive of the Year Golf Tournament on October 7th, 2010 at Oak Creek Golf Club. Honoree to be announced soon! We hope that our friends and supporters will continue to support our YMCA through our Y Travel Raffle 2009.
