Our Karate program stresses the development of spirit, mind and body through discipline, practice and hard work. Students will learn the art of kicking & punching, with an emphasis on self-defense, self control and self-discipline, respect for others, self confidence, and physical conditioning. The program focuses on the following: learn the fundamentals of karate in a non-competitive environment, improve athletic skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, and the development of positive self-esteem.
Our instructor encourages students to test mental and physical boundaries. Karate sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at our Youth Center. We offer our Karate program year-round.
The YMCA offers Karate classes, from beginner to advanced level, for youth ages 8 to adults. We teach our classes in 4-week sessions, this keeps learning Karate, self-discipline and self-defense affordable for you and your family.
Every class has a minimum of one instructor per sixteen students so each student receives focused instruction by the senior instructor.
Our Karate classes are taught in the Shito Ryu technique, an old style Okinawan kenpo art that differs from other Karate school techniques in that the emphasis is not on competition and trophies, but rather on self defense and personal growth. This is a completely systematized method of learning for children and adults, honoring both the culture from which it originates.
